Terms and Disclaimers

Last updated October 27, 2026

Vignette is a study aid for practice only. Questions and explanations are generated by artificial intelligence and may be wrong. Do not rely on them for patient care, and do not treat them as a substitute for your course materials, faculty, or official exam resources. We make no promise about how you will do on any exam, quiz, or other assessment.

1. Acceptance

By using this website, joining the waitlist, or using Vignette in any form, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the service.

2. Educational use only

Vignette is intended only for personal educational practice by students. Nothing on this site or produced by the service is medical advice, clinical guidance, or a recommendation for diagnosing or treating any person. Never use content from Vignette to make decisions about patient care.

3. No guarantee of accuracy

Questions, answer choices, explanations, and any other content are generated automatically by artificial intelligence, including from material you provide. This content may contain factual errors, outdated information, omissions, ambiguous questions, or incorrect answer keys. You are responsible for checking anything you learn against your course materials, textbooks, and faculty. Sample questions on this page are illustrative and are not reviewed by a licensed physician or educator.

4. No guarantee of results on any assessment

In these terms, "assessment" means any exam, quiz, test, practical, OSCE, shelf exam, board or licensing examination (including COMLEX-USA and USMLE), or any other graded or ungraded evaluation, whether given by a school, a testing organization, or anyone else. We make no representation, warranty, or guarantee that using Vignette will improve your performance on any assessment, or that its questions reflect the content, difficulty, format, or scoring of any real assessment. Your results depend on many factors outside our control. Vignette is not responsible for any assessment outcome, grade, score, ranking, or academic or professional consequence.

5. No affiliation

Vignette is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the NBME, NBOME, FSMB, any medical school, any question bank, or any publisher. COMLEX-USA, USMLE, and all other names are trademarks of their respective owners and are used only to describe exam formats. "Board-style" describes a question format, not official or licensed content.

6. Your materials and your school's rules

7. Copyright and uploaded content

8. Provided "as is"

The service and all content are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't guarantee the service will be available, uninterrupted, secure, or free of errors, and we may change or discontinue it at any time.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Vignette and its creator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of grades, scores, academic standing, career opportunity, data, or profits, arising from your use of or inability to use the service or any content it produces. Where liability cannot be excluded, total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the 12 months before the claim, or $0 if you have not paid anything.

10. Indemnity

You agree to hold harmless Vignette and its creator from any claim arising from your use of the service, the materials you upload, or your violation of these terms or of any school policy or law.

11. Waitlist and privacy

If you join the waitlist, we collect your name, school, and email address. We use them only to contact you about Vignette, such as early access and launch updates. We don't sell your information. Form submissions are stored by our website host, Netlify, and we use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits without cookies. To be removed from the waitlist, reply to any email we send and ask.

When you build a block, your files are read in your own browser and their text is checked for patient information first. Only the extracted text (and, when picture questions are turned on and you leave them on, up to 20 reduced copies of pictures from your files) is sent, through our server, to our AI service provider, which uses it only to write your questions. Pictures cannot be checked for patient information automatically, so don't upload pictures that show a patient's face, name or record details. Vignette does not store your files, their text, or pictures that aren't used in a question; a picture used in one of your questions is saved with that quiz. Our AI service provider may not use this content to train AI models, and it deletes it within 30 days. The questions written for you, and your scores and answers when you take them, are saved on our host, Netlify, under your invite code, so you can open them again on any device. Anyone with your code can see them, so don't share it. You can delete any saved quiz from the app, and it is removed from our storage. Your last few blocks are also kept in your own browser. If you report a problem with a question, we keep that question and your note so we can fix it.

12. Changes

We may update these terms at any time. The date at the top shows the latest version. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
